Ingredients

  • 1 whole turkey (10–12 lbs)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil or melted butter
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 lemon, halved
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 2 cups chicken broth

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Remove the giblets and pat the turkey dry with paper towels. Place the turkey on a roasting rack in a large roasting pan.
  3. Rub the turkey with olive oil or melted butter. Season with salt and pepper. Stuff the cavity with lemon halves and onion quarters.
  4. Pour chicken broth into the bottom of the pan. Cover the turkey loosely with aluminum foil. Roast for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, basting occasionally with pan juices, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  5. Remove the foil during the last 30 minutes to allow the skin to brown and crisp up.
  6. Let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.
  7. Slice and serve your beautiful, juicy holiday turkey!
